TRIPS AND REPELLING LLC

Why go Repelling

You should try repelling because in a few meetings you will know what it is like to hang from a rope around 80-120 feet up a cliff face and then you will lower yourself down the cliff face. You do not need to spend countless hours in the gym training and who knows maybe you will make time afterward. With starting at a lower height and then progressing higher you should develop the confidence to lower yourself down the higher cliff faces. The biggest harness I have found is from Mammut and has 34-42" in circumference for the waist and 24.5-28" in circumference for the leg loops. You will also be able to have a safety rope letting the rope out with a secondary ATC just in case you need it. That is a guarantee you will not go down the face of the cliff to fast.

Prices

$25 per person for the beginning cliff faces. $100 per person for the higher cliff faces. Due to the drive the glacier repels on Mount Hood are $500 for the 1st person and $100 for each additional person.

The second choice of cliffs are one of the dihedrals or cliffs beside them which are 80-140 feet high.

There is a 1-2 mile hike to the glaicer cliffs and/or crevasses and it is uphill and starts at Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. The first picture is a regular repel, the second picture is an Australian repel, and the third picture is why you should not repel in soft snow (the pivot point is not solid, see how the rope has dug into the snow at the top of the crevice). Why go on Backpacking Trips

It is an adventure that does not get too extreme and is an experience of the beginning of mountaineering which can be an encouragement for the rest of your life. It is the approach to the mountains it is a taste of sleeping in tents after backpacking into the base of a mountain or somewhere else.

If the group decides to go higher up the mountains, then up the mountains we will go. I have summited all the mountains on the list. Some do require roping up and repelling off the summits which will require the ropes and gear to do so.

It is $500 for a 1-2 night trip and $100 for each additional person. $1000 for a 3-5 night trip and $200 for each additional person. If you just want to backpack for a day the gear requirements will go down and the price will be $200 for the first person and $100 for each additional person. Give me a call and we will work out the prices and solidify the agreement with a down payment and/or contract.

Mt. Jefferson Trip

Backpacking into the Jefferson wilderness area is a good hike with a clearly seen trail so you cannot get lost. There are a lot of glacial lakes for a chilly swim. There are some cool crevasses that can be hiked up to. If the group chooses to climb Mt Jefferson. The mount Jefferson climb is a challenging one with a rock cliff top that requires roping up and repelling down or down climbing an easy a class 4 scramble or a class 5 rank. So, ropes, harnesses, and some gear is necessary. Getting a book on the climb is recommended so you can know what to expect. It is $500 for a 1-2 night trip. $1000 for a 3-5 night trip.

Three Finger Jack Trip

Three Finger Jack looks like the hardest climb due to the jagged rock. It does have a nice meadow to east down at the base. I have slept in a bivy sack on one of the ridges overnight before and that worked out well. A bivy sack is a tent that you can only put a sleeping bag in. There is also a cliff to do some repelling off of really close to the southeast ridge. We could also just relax and have a good time or go for the summit. Getting a book on the climb is recommended so you can know what to expect. It is $500 for a 1-2 night trip. $1000 for a 3-5 night trip.

Mt. Washington Trip

Mt. Washington is a five-mile hike into the base of the mountain with a nice meadow at its western side. There are a few lakes within a mile or two the meadow. It is a short hike to where the rock of the summit starts and a mix of class four and easy class five climbing with big jug holds up the entire thing. The summit has a lot of room to walk around and take pictures from. Getting a book on the climb is recommended so you can know what to expect. It is $500 for a 1-2 night trip. $1000 for a 3-5 night trip.

North and Middle Sister Trip

It is a six-mile hike to a spring of water, meadows for camping, and some short hikes to some crevasses. If you want to climb the mountains the Middle Sister has no technical parts it is a hike to the top. The North Sister will require roping up and repelling down off the summit. Getting a book on the North Sister climb is recommended so you can know what to expect. It is $500 for a 1-2 night trip. $1000 for a 3-5 night trip.

South Sister Trip

The South Sister is a hike; however it is a challenging one due to the length. We can hike to the flat land around timberline and camp overnight away from the trail. Then we can summit it that same day or the next day. There is an ice fall, which is a lot of crevasses on one glacier, on the north side which would be fun to go explore. It is $500 for a 1-2 night trip. $1000 for a 3-5 night trip.
